Position Summary

The Safety and Security Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the safety and security operation within our 1.8 million square foot distribution center (DC), part of a $1 billion apparel company. Reporting directly to the Safety and Security Manager, this position is instrumental in the development of a proactive safety and security department aimed at maintaining the highest standards for both.


The coordinator will conduct daily safety audits, track essential safety records, and assist in the implementation of safety initiatives. Additionally, the role involves monitoring security systems and ensuring that all protocols are followed. As a vital member of the team, the Safety and Security Coordinator will help create and sustain a safe and secure environment for all team members and visitors in the DC.


This role works as part of a team and cross functionally with operations to achieve department goals. It requires flexibility and a desire to learn while working in a diverse team environment that prioritizes collaboration, trust, teamwork, and continuous improvement to drive a culture of safety.

Functional Responsibilities


1. Safety Inspections and Audits

  • Conducts daily inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and security protocols, including walkthroughs to check for hazards, blocked exits, and compliance with PPE requirements.
  • Ensures fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, eyewash stations, and first aid kits are stocked and functional.
  • Performs regular equipment safety checks, particularly for powered industrial trucks (PITs) and other machinery.
  • Maintains records of safety audits, reporting non-compliance issues to the Safety and Security Manager and working on corrective actions.

2. Security Operations

  • Monitors and responds to security systems, including access control and surveillance, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Monitors and responds to access control systems, ensuring compliance with badge policies.
  • Reviews surveillance footage to investigate and document security incidents.
  • Collaborates with third-party security personnel, ensuring adherence to site protocols and incident response.
  • Monitors and assists at the guard shack to ensure compliance with shipping and receiving procedures, while developing and implementing effective security protocols.

3. Incident Response and Investigation

  • Investigates workplace incidents, including injuries, near-misses, or security breaches, and document findings comprehensively.
  • Supports emergency response procedures, including evacuations and drills.

4. Safety Program Support

  • Partners with manager to develop and implement safety programs, focusing on emergency preparedness, accident prevention, and risk management.
  • Facilitates safety training sessions for staff, updating training materials as needed to reflect current standards.
  • Assists in the creation and delivery of safety training programs, including forklift certification and refresher courses.
  • Maintains an accessible repository of safety documentation, including SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and training materials.

5. Communication and Collaboration

  • Serves as the main point of conduct for safety-related inquiries and concerns among employees and management, responding promptly to employee inquiries.
  • Develops and maintain clear documentation of safety policies and procedures for easy access by all employees.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Conducts regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Reviews and improves existing safety training and policies, ensuring alignment with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.

7. Continuing Education

  • Stays updated on industry best practice and regulations related to safety and security, participating in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
  • Participates in online courses or webinars to enhance knowledge of risk management and emergency response.
  • Stays updated on changes in local, state, and federal safety regulations to ensure compliance and enhance program effectiveness.


Education/Qualifications

  • REQUIRED

o High School Diploma or equivalent.

o Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on documentation accuracy.

o Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • PREFERRED

o Associate’s degree in safety management, security, or a related field.

o Familiarity with OSHA standards and compliance requirements and safety management systems.

o Experience conducting safety audits and using risk management tools.

o Certification in PIT operation or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.


Experience

  • REQUIRED

o 2-3 years of experience in safety and security roles, with at least 2 years of incident investigation experience.

o Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, detail-oriented, and work independently within a team-based environment.

o Proven ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • PREFERRED

o Previous experience conducting safety audits in a distribution center or 3PL.

o Familiarity with DC safety compliance standards, especially OSHA regulations.

This job posting is for two roles: one for the AM shift and the other for the PM shift.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
