Job Summary:
The Senior Design Director will lead the design vision and strategy for all men’s apparel brands including but not limited to: Ted by Ted Baker, overseeing all aspects of product creation from concept to final execution. This role focuses on trend forecasting, brand alignment, and maintaining Ted Baker reputation for quality and innovation in apparel. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience in directing large design teams, and a deep understanding of market trends.

Essential Functions (Including but not limited to):
  • Lead and drive the creative direction, design strategy, and seasonal collections for Van Heusen.
  • Oversee end-to-end design processes, ensuring product alignment with brand aesthetics and market needs.
  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to ensure designs are competitive and relevant.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, production, and marketing teams to meet design objectives and brand standards.
  • Ensure consistency and quality control across all product lines.
  • Present design concepts and strategies to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments, identifying strengths and development areas to support team members’ career progression.
  • Partner with HR on employee relations matters, including performance coaching, training initiatives, and conflict resolution as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategies for ongoing team development, training, and succession planning.
  • Champion innovation and forward-thinking design by exploring new materials, technologies, and sustainability practices to align with brand goals and enhance product value.
  • Strategically guide the brand’s long-term creative vision by setting design principles and future-oriented frameworks that adapt to evolving consumer preferences and industry shifts.
  • Facilitate collaboration with executive leadership to align design goals with broader business objectives, ensuring cohesive brand messaging across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Promote a data-driven approach to design, using analytics and customer insights to refine design decisions and maximize product relevance and appeal.
  • Foster an inclusive and high-performing team culture that values creativity, diversity, and accountability, enabling the design team to thrive and reach its full potential.
  • Lead team initiatives in professional development by identifying skill gaps, curating design workshops, and encouraging ongoing education to keep the team at the forefront of design trends.
  • Ensure operational excellence within the design function, establishing clear timelines, workflows, and processes that optimize efficiency and support seamless collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Leverage strong communication and presentation skills to articulate design concepts and their impact, building consensus and inspiring stakeholder buy-in.
  • Embed sustainability and ethical considerations in design, supporting Van Heusen’s commitment to responsible and eco-conscious production.
  • Stay informed on competitive landscape and cultural trends, positioning the brand as a leader in innovative, relevant design.

This is an onsite position at our New York City Office. 

The Salary Range for this position is $150,000 - $165,000.
