Job Summary:
The Assistant Buyer for Hurley.com will support the Director of Buying & Planning for the site. This job will be located in our Costa Mesa offices.  This position will support the selecting of assortments across all categories of business, inclusive of other licensees, product to display online and in stores where applicable. The role will support the preparation, selection, set up and execution of skus to the website.
 
Essential Functions (Including but not limited to):
  • E-Commerce Merchandising: Design and implement visually engaging and sales-focused product presentations that enhance the online shopping experience, drive conversions, and reflect our brand’s premium standards.
  • Purchase Order and Shipment Management: Oversee purchase orders and shipment tracking
  • Database Management: Maintain an organized, up-to-date database of product specifications, inventory levels, and other critical details to support operational efficiency and decision-making across channels.
  • Inventory Monitoring and Allocation: Regularly monitor inventory levels, initiating procuring inventory as needed to ensure optimal stock availability, minimize shortages, and respond swiftly to customer demand.
  • Partner Collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for licensees, distribution centers, and third-party agencies, fostering alignment and ensuring smooth execution of initiatives across all touchpoints.
  • Performance Reporting: Develop and analyze detailed performance reports for retail and e-commerce channels, leveraging data to identify trends, measure the success of strategies, and inform future actions.
  • Support development of future assortment plans by category of business based on sales results, trend changes and design direction.
  • Successful alignment of product flows with marketing campaigns to enhance relevance and impact.
  • Data-driven reporting and analysis that informs decision-making and contributes to channel performance growth. Responsible for pulling, compiling and reporting out on weekly selling
  • Effectiveness in collaboration with key partners, ensuring seamless coordination across licensees, distribution centers, and agencies.
  • Support OTB to create financial guardrails / projections for revenue and inventory management
  • Find opportunities and call out risk to financial forecast. Drive markdowns as needed or on a seasonal basis
  • Create and maintain MAP pricing calendar. Align with Retail and Wholesale as needed
  • Ad hoc reporting and analysis at lowest level to find opportunity or resolution to issue
  • Provide full transparency to Digital team on sku level assortment, deliveries, pricing to ensure styles are set up in a timely manner with accurate information
  • Partner with Digital team on strategies to retain customers, increase conversion and AOV
  • Track inventory serviceability; manage through a receipt tracker. Notify all parties if product is late
  • Publish prelim annual promo/md calendar in Nov prior year as well as communicate price changes/markdowns
  • MAP Pricing: work with wholesale team to align on pricing and promotions to create synergy across channels
  • Merchandising:  Selling, Assortment needs, Competitive landscape
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • 2-4 years Planning and/or Buying experience in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of retail concepts, practices, and procedures. Experience in digital a plus.
  • Excellent organization, negotiation, and collaborative communication skills; ability to stay poised and positive in all situations. Strong capability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain workflow efficiency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong people skills that can bring / unite teams together around varying business solutions.
  • Analytical Skills: Robust ability to interpret performance data, identify key insights, and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, inventory management systems, and database tools to ensure seamless operations.
  • Creativity and Visual Merchandising: Ability to translate brand identity into compelling online product presentations and displays.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Proactive and resourceful in identifying solutions to operational challenges and driving initiatives forward.
  • Advanced Excel Proficiency: Expertise in MS Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis, to drive operational and analytical excellence.
