At United Legwear & Apparel Europe B.V. (ULAC), we partner with leading fashion brands including Scotch & Soda, Skechers, Hurley, PUMA, and Ted Baker. 

We're looking for a detail-oriented Tax & VAT Controller to join our Hoofddorp Finance team, managing tax and VAT processes across our Netherlands, Germany, and UK offices plus wholesale & e-commerce operations. This key finance role ensures compliance, supports accurate reporting, and manages risks as our business grows.  

Your Role & Responsibilities 

🧾 VAT Compliance & Reporting 

  • Handle Dutch BTW returns, Intrastat, OSS/IOSS, and multi-country VAT filings across Netherlands, Germany, UK offices, wholesale, and e-commerce. 

  • Resolve discrepancies, manage reclaims, reverse charges, and post-Brexit UK VAT processes. 

  • Monitor EU VAT updates (e.g., e-invoicing) and apply to cross-border fashion sales.  

📋 Tax Processes & Controls 

  • Oversee tax payments, provisions, customs VAT, and duties for apparel imports/exports. 

  • Coordinate with brokers on tariffs and Dutch Article 23 deferments. 

  • Develop audit-ready tax controls covering Netherlands, Germany, UK, and e-commerce. 

  • Collaborate with warehouse, logistics, sales, and finance teams to optimize VAT processes.  

📊 Reporting, Analysis & Financial Support 

  • Prepare reports and KPIs on VAT exposure, compliance, and cash flow impacts. 

  • Support month-end close, tax accruals, budgeting, and external audits. 

  • Conduct tax risk assessments and contribute to consolidated forecasting.  

🔮 Planning, Risk Management & Optimization 

  • Provide tax insights for revenue planning, pricing, and inventory decisions. 

  • Identify risks early (e.g., VAT gaps, audit issues) and recommend optimizations. 

  • Improve processes and plan for regulatory or supply chain changes.  

What We're Looking For 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's in Finance/Accounting (tax law a plus). 

  • 5+ years in finance (controllership, FP&A) with VAT/tax experience in EU operations (fashion/retail preferred). 

  • Strong Excel and ERP skills (Exenta, Microsoft Dynamics a plus). 

  • Dutch BTW expertise required; practical knowledge of UK/German VAT, Intrastat, OSS a strong plus. 

  • CA/ACCA highly desirable (not mandatory). 

  • Corporate tax/Big 4/tax consulting experience preferred. 

  • Fluency in English; Dutch a plus (not required).  

Skills & Attributes 

  • Strong communication to work with finance, legal, logistics, sales, and advisors. 

  • Comfortable as the main contact for tax/VAT queries across offices and channels. 

  • Highly organized with attention to detail and deadlines. 

  • Analytical mindset focused on solutions and process improvements. 

  • Effective working independently and in cross-functional teams.
